Just had a phone call from the garage ... all the work has been completed on the car and it is good.

Worked until almost 3am on the new (to me) server, then was annoyingly woken up by some reporter this morning wanting information about the banning of Scientology on Wikipedia. This followed a diff reporter yesterday wanting into on the latest "oops you are one person not two and you've been a very naughty boy" incident.

Pic of my new server (black) alongside the machine previously in use (white). Actually, the old one is still doing everything at the moment (including hosting the pic above!) as I want to get the new one more 'bullet proof' first. It will be running the latest 9.04 Ubuntu server rather than the LTS version which the white one has running.

During yesterday's phone conversation about the Ultra I mentioned that I am disposing off three old boxen -- a Sun Ultra1†, an SG Indy††, and an Apple Performa 6100/60†††, the three having served as a support for a monitor I wasn't using for the last couple of years! Anyway, I said I was just 'chucking' them when Diva said I should eBay them, or bits thereof, as people look for such 'legacy' stuff.

So today I had a look ...

Far from *selling* my bits I have spent maybe five hours continuously looking at stuff to *buy*, indeed I am highest bidder on a total of *ten* servers currently (and was overbid on another)! and some other bits. *Plus* I made an offer to someone for another two and they've come back with a deal between the original and my figure.

Therefore I determine that the Internet is not *only* for p0rn!!

16th-May-2009 03:35 pm - YAYAYAYAY!!!! Dollhouse ...
lii
According to the BBC website @ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8053531.stm

"Meanwhile Fox has surprised critics and fans alike by ordering a second series of struggling sci-fi series Dollhouse.

The Joss Whedon-scripted drama stars Eliza Dushku as a secret agent whose mind has been wiped so she can be imprinted with any personality her handlers require.

It suffered near-disastrous ratings, and many assumed it would suffer the same fate as its creator's previous series, Firefly, which was pulled after just 11 episodes.

But, according to The Hollywood Reporter, executives took into account Firefly's longevity - it has continued to sell well on DVD and spawned a big-screen movie, Serenity - when deciding Dollhouse's fate.

Producers are also reported to have promised budget cuts to secure a second series."

Now let's just hope it is true!

(and she isn't a "secret agent"!)

Just watched the wedding episode of Grey's Anatomy. Rather substantial level of water leakage from the eye region ...

(later) ... and have now watched the season finale. Am in floods of tears (having to touch-type this as can't see clearly), We invest so much of ourselves in following long-running serials ...

Every couple of weeks or so I drive a minibus for a local community centre, taking a bunch of (quite elderly) ladies to some place or other for lunch and a wander. Today though was a planning meeting of theirs, except some had forgotten, and then when we get to the centre where it is to take place the fire alarm has gone off, and can't be turned off (no fire, no apparent reason for alarm). Instead I take them up to Kenwood House for coffee and cake (I don't usually stay but they all seemed happy enough at the change).

After dropping off the bus (and meeting the new CC organiser at my local CC, which is different to the one I now drive for) I headed off to Tesco for some shopping. I didn't buy any clothes. I didn't buy any alcohol. I didn't buy any expensive white goods, or expensive meat. Yet I still spent way over twice as much as I intended to. Really don't know how that happened ;-0

Yes, I checked the bill against what I had bought, and it does seem right. I just don't know where I went wrong! Anyway, five bags came upstairs with me, but the sixth one - all cans - is still in the boot of the car as it was just too much to try and bring up at the same time.

Woke up and saw that I had ten minutes until The Archers started on Radio 4 ... woke up again ten minutes after it had ended an hour and a half later ;-/ Eventually got around to falling out of bed and making a coffee.

Watched final episode of Dirty Sexy Money; some threads tied up, new ones unraveled, not that bothered that there won't be a third series. Really hoping that there *will* be a second season of Dollhouse though as it has been getting increasingly interesting.

Tried some outdoor / bright daylight pics of London from the roof with the new camera. Quite pleased with the results.

Watched today's Red Sox game. Damn Lugo!

Spent time looking at how DW works, including on the IRC channel (and unexpectedly finding people I know there!) and the DW bugzilla and codebase (the latter 'soon') and created another community too!

Currently wanting to go to bed, but both neighbours are being particularly loud and noisy at the moment (half-midnight) so I'm not a happy bunny.

As my paid account will expire by the end of the week - and I haven't made a poll in absolutely ages - here's me being a bit paranoid and a lot interested in what people may (or may not) think about me. Free-form entry mostly and I have turned off IP-tracking and permitted anon posting. I'm not sure though if a 'new' anon over-writes a previous anon though? Anyway ... have at me!

Poll #1367625 My parting gift

Over a thousand serving police officers in Great Britain have criminal convictions, according to new figures revealed by the Liberal Democrats.

The information, gathered from Freedom of Information requests to Britain’s police forces, shows how:

* There were 1,063 serving police officers in 41 police forces across Britain who had criminal convictions
* This includes five officers who were sacked by the force but reinstated by the Home Office
* There are 77 serving police officers with convictions for violent offences who have kept their jobs: 59 with convictions for assault; 14 for violence against the person; two for battery; and one for wounding
* In the last five years, just 45 have been dismissed from the police for violent offences
* 96 serving police officers have convictions for offences of dishonesty: 36 for theft; five for perverting the course of justice; three for fraud; and one each for dishonesty and forgery
* In the last five years, just 37 have been dismissed from the police for dishonesty
* 210 officers have been dismissed or required to resign in the past five years as a result of other criminal convictions

Am deleting a few users from my LJ-friends list or from particular filters†, mostly for personal-to-me reasons (ie, "it isn't you, it's me" stuff) or because they rarely seem to post / comment or because we've both 'moved on' into different life areas.

Seems to be that time of year (so the reverse also applies if you want to remove me, feel free and I won't complain)

† In some cases adding to filters I'd forgotten to add them/you too when you first arrived!

I am getting really fed up with the comments I hear or read about how (supposedly) The little child was 'killed' by social workers, or Haringay Council, or the police, or whomever EXCEPT THOSE WHO DID KILL HIM!

His mother and two of her male friends (the baby father being out of the picture, it seems) are the ones who did this. NO-ONE ELSE.

People seem to be entering the complete 'blame culture' that 'the system' killed the little tot. And that 'heads should roll' because of it. What crap! Baby 'P's death, like the deaths of everyone else who died on that same day (road accidents, in hospital, old age, etc) is to be regretted, but 'shit happens'.

The only people responsible for *your* actions are you. er, 'The only person responsible for your actions is you' then. Others may offer help, may even have a statutory duty to get involved, but that doesn't make them god (and he was pretty into killing babies iirc). They probably tried their damnedest to help, but YOU are responsible for YOUR actions and that is all.

I ACHE in places I'd forgotten I had. Actually, my whole body ACHES.

Last night (NotS) turned out, unexpectedly, to be rather wonderful in quite a few ways ;-P (Maybe a sex filter post later) and lots of people came over to me and said they loved my hair (up, with a [info]needler spike. Thanks hon!)

My intention when I arrived home just after dawn was to come down to Polyday in plenty of time. I set the alarm and everything. I think I recall the alarm going off but I couldn't really move, and when I finally "re" woke up around 12;30 I found my body was rather 'seized-up'. I've now managed to stand up (difficult) and make coffee; I shall then rethink my plans for today.

Nice night ;-)

So I'm installing a brand new ADSL connection next week which will have a /29 available and I'm trying to decide upon an ADSL modem/router/wifi as either a combination or as separates. I'll also need a VPN tunnel between there and here.

I've just been told though that my ADSL supplier can provide *native* IPv6 support. It seems sensible for me to play with this be prepared for the future by trying to select kit now which will support v6 asap.

I'm happy with flashing a BIOS or two, but any personal experiences people can recount would be most helpful right about now. My budget is to get whatever I choose in under £100 ideally (it is my mum's credit card, you see ;-P
